working example from “B-17: A Mini-Epic”

Arturo: Here we show Yumi how to kiss "Method Camera" style.

This was the only time during the B-17 shoot that another person was present on the set. Yumi arrived around 3:30 pm knowing very little about the project. It was also the first time I met her and it was quite interesting watching her walk through the set for the first time. I'm sure none of it was like anything she expected. When she saw Yumi the mannequin dressed only in underwear and leg cuffed to the bed in the set, she turned to me and asked: "Is that who I'm playing?" At that point I realized that she would have to really relate to the intent of the film for her to do the role.

Over delivery sushi, we talked about what we were trying to accomplish, and to our relief, she really wanted to do it. She then had to study her role, get into costume and makeup, learn how to interact with our Method shooting style and perform in what would end up being about 3 min. of screen time.

We shot the morph sequence, the dance and makeout sequence and the escape sequence and she was on her way home by 8pm.

A lot can be accomplished in 4 hours when variables are kept to a minimum.
